Stop the Abuse

One of the foremost aims of the Mother’s Union is to help and support family relationships but unfortunately one of the main threats to women around the world is the abuse metered out by a dominant partner be it physical or mental abuse or both. Much of the abuse suffered is incurred by women and girls because they are looked upon as the most vulnerable in a family.
As part of the Mothers’ Union’s aims, important work is carried out to help stop this unnecessary violence and to help and support these people practically, whilst calling for change at local, national and international levels.
On a practical level Mothers’ Union overseas members work closely with survivors especially those who have been subject to sexual violence by giving them emotional support along with basic needs such as housing, and other practical skills to help them get on their feet. In this country the MU works with local domestic violence refuges, helping to provide essentials and clothing for women and children. MU also fund counselling for the victims of abuse and rape in overseas countries such as the Sudan. Many of these supported survivors report a surprising decrease in violence in their homes and relationships.
