Happy NEW YEAR to one and all

What a year it turned out to be! 2016, must go down in MU history as a very memorable one as it wasn’t only our patron, Queen Elizabeth who celebrated her 90th birthday, but it was the 140th birthday/anniversary of the launch of the Mothers’ Union in 1876 by Mary Sumner aged just 25. These anniversary’s coming together helped make ... read more

Happy Christmas!

What is a tree? Well of course we all know what a tree is don’t we? Until we are presented with the dodgy ones when we are not quite sure whether it’s a bush, a shrub or a tree? Then we must consult the experts who spend their lives studying trees. No one really knows which is the oldest tree in the world, Methuselah, a Great Basin pin ... read more

9 Lessons and Carols

posted by: Joan | on: Saturday, 24 December 2016, 21:05

'Away in a Manger'

We went to our regular church for the usual 9 lessons and carol service, just as we have done in more years than I can remember. It was all so familiar that I hardly looked down at the service sheet ... read more

Lovely to be among dear friends

The heading 'MU Carols Service' sounds rather bland doesn’t it? But I can assure you it wasn’t one bit. Alan and I were delighted to be invited and given a warm welcome back to St Edward’s Mothers’ Union to join in with their annual Carol Service. I served as branch leader at St Ed’s for 6 years and I can honestly say ... read more

The Light of the world

Let us pray: for the innocent men, women and children of war-torn Mosul A small girl approached a lady saying she was lost. Once her mum had been found the lady asked the child why she had sought help from her, Well, said the girl, you are wearing the same MU badge as my mum! The Kohima Epitaph.
